The Astronomy Working Group at the Haus der Natur carries out its own projects on asteroid and small planet research and also cooperates with other astronomical specialist groups, universities and astronomical societies. Scientific conferences and seminars will take place at the observatory, at which the various specialist groups can exchange information.

The astrolab in the observatory will be used for scientific work. It offers up to 20 workstations, which are available to the Astronomy Working Group at the Haus der Natur, school groups or students. For example, spectroscopic measurements can be evaluated here.

Spectroscopy is one of the most important methods to gain knowledge in astronomy. This analysis is used, for example, to determine the presence of certain chemical elements on a celestial body, the temperature of a star atmosphere or the rotational speed of planets.
