The photographers of the Astronomy Group at the Haus der Natur Museum in Salzburg are showing their best pictures. All night long they are on the hunt for extraordinary photographs. Their passion is evident. Photos of objects of otherworldly beauty, of stars, nebulae, and galaxies from the infinite vastness of outer space come into being in the long, clear, and often bitter cold nights.

In contrast to normal photography, astrophotography is a complex process. Through painstaking work, many exposures, often hours long, are created and digitally developed with special software and great effort. This exhibit shows the result – impressive, brilliantly colored images of the highest quality. The most intricate details emerge, we can peer into the universe with ever greater precision. So far, and yet so close here and now!
