The reptile zoo in the Haus der Natur is one of the most beautiful of its kind in Europe.
When setting up terrariums it is imperative to strictly observe the requirements of the species to be kept. The immense knowledge and unerring aesthetic intuition of the zoo manager, Günter Prem, provide the basis for both the excellent zoo design and standard of husbandry.
Our terrariums allow the animals to be observed at close distance, be it our large terrarium, which is home to Mississippi alligators, both of which are now over thirty years old, or the secluded life of our poisonous beaded lizards. A visit is made unforgettable by the collection of poisonous snakes from cobras to green mambas, the largest reticulated python kept in Austria or representatives of our native snake fauna, which during the summer months live in a special greenhouse on the 3rd floor of the museum.
