<p>The famous diorama showing the sleeping place of the griffon vultures in the Rauris Tal (Hohe Tauern National Park) has its firm place in the long-term memories of our visitors. Griffon vultures are exclusive scavengers which originate from the Balkans and come to stay the summer but do not breed in the Hohe Tauern mountain range.</p>

Dioramas are some of the most impressive techniques of museum presentation. The famous pioneer of diorama construction, the painter Wolfgang Grassberger, has over many decades helped to shape the appearance of the Haus der Natur. Today his successor, Georg Klingersberger, expertly adapts and combines this art with modern techniques of museum design.
If you look carefully you will find several examples of this special type of showcase, which creates the impression of a wide open space where in reality there is very little room and which can, with the help of mirrors, evoke optical illusions and cross-fades.
