Another animated model illustrates the effects of earthquakes on the surface of the Earth.Spektakuläre Ereignisse, wie ein Vulkanausbruch, werden dem Besucher auf Knopfdruck vorgeführt und damit die grundlegenden Vorgänge und Mechanismen erläutert. Ein weiteres Bewegungsmodell zeigt die Auswirkung von Erdbeben auf die Erdoberfläche.</p>

The Earth has been changing its appearance from the beginning. The fossilized remains of organisms bear witness to the different conditions for life over the millions of years. The wealth of different types of landscape as we know it was profoundly influenced by the geologically most recent events during the ice ages.

In the palaeontological department impressive fossils are on display, in particular from the province of Salzburg. In addition, the development of the continents can be observed with the help of a "time-wheel" and volcanoes and earthquakes come to life in animated models. A layer model illustrates impressively the geological structure of Austria and of the Alps.

Our ice age exhibition offers some insight into ice age history as well as the effects on landscape, flora, fauna and man.
