'Haus der Natur' - Nature Museum and Competence Centre
The Haus der Natur (founded in 1924) is the local natural history museum of Salzburg. It houses a large exhibition about all aspects of nature, a Science Center, an aquarium and a reptile zoo. With our exhibitions we attempt to inspire our visitors, to stimulate their interest in the natural world and to enhance their understanding for natural processes. As a nature competence centre the Haus der Natur plays an important role in the scientific exploration and documentation of nature in Salzburg.
Wheelchair users
Although our museum is located in an historic building, barrier-free access to all parts of the museum became reality after large scale renovation.
A wheelchair ramp provides easy access to the museum’s main entrance. All floors of the museum can be reached by lift (wheelchair width). Stair lifts lead to both the space hall and reptile zoo. Wheelchair accessible toilets are provided on the ground floor in both the main and science buildings as well as in the café-bistro on the 1st floor.
Our museum wardens are happy to help at any time!
Vision impaired visitors
Guide Dogs are allowed in the museum.
Hearing impaired visitors
For our hearing impaired visitors we provide sign language guided tours (Austrian Sign Language). The tour guide, deaf herself, is a biology student and trained museum educator.
